Sources and rumors are flying in recent days regarding the future of the 195 Washington Bridge repair project since it was shut down in emergency fashion on Monday December 11, 2023, at 5:PM on local TV. Two words are suddenly being tossed around: full demo. As in full, complete demolition of the 195 Washington bridge. Sources in East Providence tell DePetro.com the bridge might be too far gone to be saved and instead a new bridge might have to be built. Our sources claim Governor Dan McKee is in full denial mode and trying to insist the Washington bridge can be repaired and all the construction is just “an inconvenience.” Meanwhile, traffic continues to be a complete parking lot nightmare for those dealing with traveling in the East Bay area. There is also disagreement amongst McKee and organized labor, with labor looking at a potential goldmine (a RI big dig) to build a new bridge, but McKee fearful it ends his political career. McKee is supposedly trying to push off any type of Smith Hill hearings on the matter, where his administration and DOT would be asked very direct questions. RI DOT continues to try and make the best of an impossible situation, but the clock is ticking. Massachusetts highway officials reportedly want answers as to if this could impact summer travel to Cape Cod. How much would a new bridge cost? How long would it take to build? When will coach McKee level with commuters? Full Demo!
