Providence Mall shooting

On Sunday  July 10 at 1:15pm, Providence Police responded to 106 Francis St., in the area of Providence Place Mall and The State House, for a report of a shooting. Zenil Gomes age 28 transported himself to RI Hospital for a gunshot to his calf and ankle. Gomes stated that he was on Francis St to return his 2 year old child to the child’s mother, Carminda Cardoda, as part of their joint custody arrangement. They chose the spot on Francis St because it is between Gomes’ home in Brocton Ma. and the mother’s home in Norwich Ct. When Gomes approach the Cardosa’s car, the front seat passenger and Gomes began arguing. The front seat passenger pulled a gun and shot Gomes as Gomes ran away. A rear seat passenger exited the mother’s vehicle and also began shooting at Gomes and a friend who was with Gomes. The gun shots were fired in the direction where Gomes had parked his vehicle while the 2 year old child was still inside. The child was not injured. Detectives were able to identify both shooters as Jim Peterson Durandisse age 24 and Karljaphey Theodore age 23 both of Norwich Ct. Arrest warrants were issued for Felony Assault and possession of a firearm without a license.  Druandisse and Theodore were apprehended by Norwich Police Department Thursday night July 21. A firearm was located in the vehicle at the time Norwich Police arrested them. They are awaiting extradition proceedings. DCYF in Ma. and Ct. were advised by Providence Police.
