The collapse of the campaign of LT Governor Sabina Matos (finishing fourth in the CD-1 primary) has people speculating her political career is over. Matos ran a terrible campaign (still under criminal investigation) with nothing major coming down the pike in the near future that could save her. Chosen by McKee to become the Lt Governor, Matos fell out of favor with McKee when she sided with Dr. Scott, who was sent packing by the Governor. Matos performed poorly in CD-1 debates and often seem to rely on prepared notes and kept telling voters she was “a mom.” The campaign had a congressman from New York come into campaign with her which turned into a complete disaster. She next held a presser with a candidate who left the race at 1%, telling other candidates to rally around her and leave the race. There are now post-election rumblings on Smith Hill that the Lt. Governor will no longer be invited to attend high profile pressers and up next will come the loss of office space. Sabina Matos will definitely face a primary in 2026 and will spend the next two years struggling to create a role for herself. A remarkable collapse from the candidate who can finally leave her sisters couch in CD-1 and move home.
