The race is on. Republican newcomer Jeann Lugo, candidate for Lt. Governor, called out McKee sidekick Lt. Governor Sabina Matos for her continued silence during the FBI probe of the administration of Governor Dan McKee. The FBI confirmed last week they have begun an investigation into the McKee administration practice of handing out contracts. Friends and donors of McKee have received millions in contracts, with the Governor helping them in the process. Matos is running on a ticket with McKee and has not commented if she will cooperate with the FBI. After just one year in office, Governor McKee is facing several investigations into his administration and method of business. In 2002, Mayor Cianci was sentenced to six years in Federal Prison for running city hall as a criminal enterprise. In 1999, Governor Ed DiPrete did time at the ACI in Cranston for corruption. Matos has not commented on whether she will hire a criminal defense attorney or if she will answer questions with a Grand jury. Matos supported Defunding Police while she was in Providence and has never answered questions regarding her relationship with a powerful lobbyist.
