A very suspicious fire hit the law office of new Speaker Joe Shekarchi last night just as the Speaker was looking to possibly amend state law regarding firefighters and overtime. When was the last time a fire hit a law office? Never. When was the last time there was a fire at a law office in Warwick? Never. State House sources say a state law passed in 2018 regarding firefighters and overtime was being discussed and there was discussion on amending the law. The Providence Journal reported last week on Warwick firefighters gaming the system to collect over $300K in overtime.
