COLFAX STREET TERROR! SHOTS FIRED, CHILDREN DIVING FOR COVER!
EXCLUSIVE — Residents of a Providence, Rhode Island housing complex are living a real-life nightmare, with a normal Friday morning shattered by a hail of bullets.
“It was like a war zone,” one shaken tenant, who wished to remain anonymous, exclusively told The Tabloid. “I just dove, I didn’t even think. My first thought was the kids.”
In a chilling scene straight from an action movie, police reports describe a terrifying incident on Colfax Street that left a community traumatized and families reeling.
‘PLASTER IN MY FACE’
According to sources close to the investigation, the horror began at approximately 7:05 AM. A second-floor resident was jolted awake not by an alarm, but by the devastating sound of gunshots. In a dramatic account, she told officers she felt pieces of her own wall exploding onto her face as she scrambled from her bed, the air thick with plaster dust and fear. While the assault raged, her only thought was her daughter, and she bravely crawled across the floor to ensure her safety.
KIDS CRAWL TO SAFETY
Above, on the third floor, another family was caught in the crossfire. A mother and her children were forced to make a harrowing escape, crawling on their bellies through their own home to get clear of the terrifying sound. Her children were identified as she yelled for them to get to the ground, a desperate attempt to save them. Police later discovered multiple bullet holes throughout her apartment, including in her daughter’s bedroom and the hallway, painting a grim picture of the assault.
MASKED GUNMEN ON THE LOOSE
A crucial witness reported seeing a dark-colored Hyundai Sonata pull up, from which two individuals exited, wearing dark sweatshirts and, chillingly, ski masks. These hooded figures then opened fire, the motivation for the brutal attack still a mystery. Multiple shell casings and bullet holes scarred the exterior and interior of the complex.
A COMMUNITY ON EDGE
The Providence Housing Authority complex, a place dozens call home, has been transformed into a crime scene. No injuries were reported, but the psychological scars run deep. The sheer number of bullet casings found by responding Patrolwoman V. Wilcox and her partner speaks to the ferocity of the attack, which brought Sgt. Tella, Lt. Greeno, and a small army of detectives and BCI units to the scene. The shooter, or shooters, remain at large.
The investigation has been turned over to the Detective Bureau, but for the residents of Colfax Street, the sense of security has been completely shattered. “We don’t know who did this, or why,” says another tenant. “We’re just all wondering… will they come back?”
