Investigation Into School Hit List

Parents in the Chariho Regional School District are raising serious concerns after a second-grade student at Charlestown Elementary School allegedly created a list targeting specific students and staff members.

Key Details of the Incident

  • The Incident: A second-grade student allegedly created a list containing the names of classmates and staff members. Parents who spoke with NBC 10 (WJAR) reported being informed by the school that their children were named on what was described as a “hit list” or “stabbing list”.

  • School & Law Enforcement Response: School administration contacted law enforcement and initiated internal safety protocols. Charlestown Police were called to investigate the matter.

  • District Communication: Administration sent a letter to Charlestown Elementary School families stating that law enforcement was involved, protocols were followed, and the situation had been “thoroughly addressed” and “resolved”. The district cited privacy laws for not disclosing specific disciplinary or intervention actions taken regarding the student.

  • Parental Concerns: Several parents in the Chariho district have expressed frustration over the timing and transparency of the district’s communication, questioning whether proper safety measures were taken and asking for greater accountability regarding student safety

A Little Rascal with a Big Problem

Is this the beginning of a criminal mastermind? A tiny terrorist in the making? For now, parents must keep their children home and wonder if their little town is really a hotbed of junior-sized danger.

“I can’t believe a second grader would make a hit list,” said Sarah Jenkins, a mother of two. “This is just crazy. I thought this was a quiet town where nothing bad happens, but I guess I was wrong. I’m just glad they found it before anything terrible happened.”

“I’m keeping my kids home until I know they are safe,” added local business owner John Peterson. “We need more police officers in the schools. It’s the only way to protect our children from this kind of violence.”

The school has since issued a statement to parents addressing the incident and assuring them that they are working with the local authorities to ensure the safety of all students.

“We are taking this situation very seriously,” the statement read. “The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and we are working with the Charlestown Police Department to ensure that all necessary precautions are being taken.”
