Chaos at Cranston Halloween Party
CRANSTON, R.I. — A Halloween weekend house party spiraled into chaos Friday night, leading to six arrests—including two adults—and triggering a multi-agency law enforcement response to disperse over 150 attendees spilling into city streets.
Cranston Police responded to a 911 call reporting a fight in progress at 58 Weston Avenue around 9:43 p.m. on October 30. Upon arrival, officers encountered a massive crowd, largely made up of teenagers, with dozens of partygoers fleeing the property and running into live traffic on nearby Cranston Street.
To regain control of the scene and safely clear the area, Cranston Police called in mutual aid from the Providence Police Department and the Rhode Island State Police.
Underage Drinking & Juvenile Arrests
Inside and surrounding the property, officers discovered open liquor containers, shot cups, and nips scattered across the yard and tables. Police observed teens as young as 15 consuming alcohol on-site.
Four juveniles were taken into custody during the response:
-
Charges against the minors included disorderly conduct and obstructing an officer in the execution of duty.
-
Three teenage girls, ages 15 and 16, submitted to preliminary breath tests at police headquarters that confirmed alcohol consumption. One of the 15-year-olds was additionally charged with underage possession of alcohol and possession of under one ounce of marijuana by a minor.
Adult Resident Charged
The resident of the home, Silvia Acevedo, 47, told officers that the gathering was originally meant to be a small get-together for her 17-year-old daughter’s friends.
Because the gathering involved open alcohol consumption by minors and posed serious safety hazards to the community, Acevedo was arrested and charged with furnishing/procurement of alcoholic beverages for underage persons. She was held for arraignment.
Bystander Resists Arrest
In addition to the home’s resident, police arrested Mathias Henebury, 52, of Johnston, after he allegedly stepped in to stop officers from catching a fleeing juvenile. According to police, Henebury actively resisted arresting officers and a responding police supervisor.
Henebury faces four counts:
-
Simple Assault
-
Disorderly Conduct
-
Obstructing an Officer in the Execution of Duty
-
Resisting Arrest
He was processed and held pending arraignment before a Justice of the Peace. All detained juveniles were eventually released into the custody of their parents or guardians
