From Police:

Coventry Man Succumbs to Injuries Sustained After Altercation

On 10/26/26 at 2218 hrs., Coventry Police responded to 12 Anthony St. for a report of male who was possibly stabbed with a sharped–edged weapon in the rear of the residence. Upon arrival officers located the victim who has been identified as Nicholas Bennett (19yoa). Officers on scene immediately started CPR on the victim and Coventry Fire/Rescue responded to take over medical treatment. Life saving measures were taken and he was transported to Kent County Hospital where the male later succumbed to his injuries.

Coventry Police Detectives responded to the scene and continue to actively investigate the matter in conjunction with the Rhode Island Attorneys‘ General Office and the Office of the RI State Medical Examiners.

An eyewitness tells DePetro.com the following: ” a group of friends, including Nick, were gathered at the residence where the incident occurred. The suspect and another male allegedly went into the backyard and began causing trouble with the young man who lived there. The suspect picked up a cinder block and threw it at the resident’s face. Nick then intervened,  bear-hugging the suspect to restrain him and prevent him from picking up the cinder block a second time. While Nick was holding him, the suspect ( Josh)  pulled out a knife and stabbed him multiple times. Nick was trying to protect someone and prevent the situation from escalating, but he lost his life in the process. Coventry Police took the suspect and another male into custody. The two suspects had harassed another individual near the bike path earlier that evening and may have gone to the residence looking for that person, leading to the confrontation.”

A fund has been set up to help the family, link is here:
