
On May 3, 2026 at approximately 3:02 PM, Warwick Police officers were dispatched to the area of the rear
parking lot of St. Timothy’s Church, 1799 Warwick Avenue, for a reported stabbing. Upon arrival, officers
located a 39-year-old male victim suffering from an apparent stab wound to the arm. The victim was quickly
administered life-saving treatment and subsequently transported to the hospital by the Warwick Fire
Department. He is in serious but stable condition.
Based on statements from the victim and witnesses, the suspect was quickly identified as 37-year-old Derek
Shippee. Shippee turned himself in a short time later without incident.
Shippee is being charged with Felony Assault and is currently being held at the Warwick Police Station.
This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the public.
