the Cranston Police Department has charged Anna Maria Angelosanto, 62, of Cranston, with Domestic Violence – Murder – First Degree in connection with the death of her 21-year-old daughter, Alexandra Straccia. On Sunday, July 27, 2026, at approximately 8:39 a.m., Cranston Police officers responded to 50 Kingwood Avenue after the property’s landlord reported a water emergency at the residence. Upon entering the first-floor apartment, officers located Angelosanto suffering from apparent self-inflicted injuries. She was transported by Cranston Fire Department rescue personnel to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. Officers also located Alexandra Straccia deceased inside the residence. The Rhode Island Office of the State Medical Examiner responded to the scene and assumed custody of the victim. The Cranston Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation immediately initiated a comprehensive investigation. Detectives obtained a court-authorized search warrant and conducted a methodical examination of the residence, recovering physical evidence, including a handwritten note and prescription and over-the-counter medications. Detectives also interviewed family members and Angelosanto during her hospitalization. As the investigation progressed, detectives developed probable cause to believe that Angelosanto intentionally caused the death of her daughter before attempting to take her own life. Following consultation with the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office, detectives obtained a warrant charging Angelosanto with Domestic Violence – Murder – First Degree. Alexandra Straccia was 21 years old and had severe autism. She was entirely dependent upon her mother for around-the-clock care. “This is an extraordinarily tragic case that has deeply affected our community and everyone involved in the investigation,” said Colonel Michael J.
