Two juveniles, aged 12, are now charged with murder and conspiracy to commit felony assault in connection with a January 19, 2026 incident on Manton Avenue. The juveniles were arraigned in Family Court earlier today.
Two additional juveniles involved in the attack are expected to be arraigned later this week.
On January 19, 2026, at approximately 7:23 PM, patrol officers responded to the area of 249 Manton Avenue for a report of an assault. Witnesses reported observing several individuals assault an adult male, knocking him to the ground and repeatedly kicking and punching him before fleeing the area.
Officers located the victim, a 51-year-old male, who was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment. The victim, Rony Alonso, later succumbed to his injuries.
Detectives and the Youth Services Bureau conducted an extensive investigation, including a video canvas of the surrounding area. As a result of that investigation, police identified four juveniles who were later taken into custody and initially charged with felony assault and conspiracy.
An autopsy was conducted, and the Office of the Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma. Based on these findings, the charges were upgraded.
