Driving to Endanger Death Resulting

On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at approximately 3:40 PM, Troopers from the Scituate Barracks responded to calls for a single motor vehicle crash on Route 295 South, south of Plainfield Pike, in the City of Cranston. Witnesses to the crash stated that a Honda Accord, traveling in the high-speed lane, was forced off the roadway by another vehicle and entered the center median where it struck a tree. The operator of the Honda, identified as Casey Bassignani, age 23, of Johnston, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Cranston Rescue where she was pronounced deceased. The operator of the second vehicle involved, identified as Juan Archila, age 43 of Providence, was later located and taken into custody without incident after he fled the scene. Archila was charged with Driving to Endanger – Death Resulting, held overnight and arraigned before a Justice of the Peace on Thursday morning. He was released on $50,000 surety bail from the ACI. Local media have withheld publishing a photo of Juan Archila for fear of upsetting the Latino population in the area. Friends of Casey Bassignani are devastated and described her has such a wonderful friend who loved her family. Not one elected official has issued a statement for fear of alienating Latino voters.
