 A Providence, Rhode Island man has been charged for his involvement in a crash this week that killed 23-year-old Casey Bassignani of Johnston, after he ran her off of 295 and fled the scene. Juan Archila, 43, has been charged with driving to endanger resulting in death, for the rollover crash that happened on I-295 in Cranston on Wednesday. Bassignani is the daughter of a state police Captain, and her brother is a trooper. In the video below, Archila talks of his hatred towards state police, and sources claim Bassignani had a state police sticker on her vehicle when he ran her off 295 and fatally struck a tree. A Democrat, liberal, progressive judge let Archila out on bail and asked him to please come back to court at the end of February and to limit his driving.

State Police Make Arrest After Fatal Crash

On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at approximately 3:40 PM, Troopers from the Scituate Barracks responded to calls for a single motor vehicle crash on Route 295 South, south of Plainfield Pike, in the City of Cranston.

Witnesses to the crash stated that a Honda Accord, traveling in the high-speed lane, was forced off the roadway by another vehicle and entered the center median where it struck a tree.

The operator of the Honda, identified as Casey Bassignani, age 23, of Johnston, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital by Cranston Rescue where she was pronounced deceased.

The operator of the second vehicle involved, identified as Juan Archila, age 43 of Providence, was later located and taken into custody without incident. Archila was charged with Driving to Endanger – Death Resulting, held overnight and arraigned before a Justice of the Peace on Thursday morning. He was held on $50,000 surety bail at the ACI, released Friday.
