Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza has accepted an invitation to be a guest speaker at a Providence Emancipation Day celebration featuring the militant, Anti-Semitic New Black Panthers Party. Elorza and Providence City Council President Sabina Matos are both featured at the event to be held at Roger Williams Park and attended by the New York and North Carolina chapters of the Anti-Semitic group New Black Panthers Party. The NBPP has a long history and is considered a hate group. Recently the NBPP was in the news for a boycott on goods from China ( https://nextshark.com/new-black-panther-party-protest/). Elorza is in the midst of a 2022 run for Governor of Rhode Island and is desperately trying to make inroads with black voters. Elorza recently announced he would seek reparations for black people of Providence for the role Rhode Island played in the slave trade in 1695. The Southern Poverty Law Center considers the NBPP a vicious hate group ( https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/group/new-black-panther-party).
