Reliable sources connected to the Rhode Island Convention Center confirm Jim Demers, the former trooper and disgraced former head of security fired from the Convention Center,  has filed for unemployment.  The Demers firing in December is at the center of the controversy surrounding the audit demanded by House Speaker Nick Mattiello which led to a grand jury and possible charges of extortion.  Under the law, Demers received a severance and should not qualify for unemployment due to his firing, however, sources at DLT speculate Mattiello or friend Frank Montanaro might interfere claiming Demers should receive unemployment due to the pandemic.
