Labor day becomes arresting day as R.I. state trooper Eddy Stenovitch gets arrested and charged with simple assualt for the "unprovoked" attack on Providence policeman Ted Gannon. Stenovitch was released for the attack that happened between 3:am and 3:30 at the FOP.

What happened at the FOP? Witnesses say R.I. State Police trooper Eddy Stenovitch walked in to the Providence FOP with his wife,Joyce, and North Providence cop ,Brian Depitrillo and a date, early Saturday morning after 2AM. Stenovich is now on leave. Witnesses say Stenovitch struck Providence policeman Ted Gannon. Gannon was treated for a broken nose and concussion.

Stenovitch is under investigation for conduct unbecoming a trooper. Incident occured between 2:30 and 3:am Saturday 9/5. The gathering was a benefit for the Late Peter Rocchio, who died June 6th. Sources say Stenovitch left as Gannon lay on the floor,but was then involved in a fight outside the F.O.P. with several members of the Providence Police.

At this time it is unclear why Stenovitch allegedly hit Gannon. State Police and Providence police are investigating the incident. Sources say people were having fun Friday night September 4th remembering the former officer . Witnesses say there was no sign of trouble until Gannon hit the floor. Gannon has said he has no memory of the incident with Stenovitch.

Gannon was taken to the hospitol where he was treated for a concussion,broken nose, and stiches to the head. Witnesses say Stenovitch then suffered injuries outside, fighting with members of the Providence police. Stenovitch is the son of a trooper.
